2019 MOST POPULAR NON-SURGICAL TREATMENTS

Most Popular Non-Surgical treatmentsThe results from a recent 2019 survey done by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstruction shows that Botox, dermal fillers and skin rejuvenation were the most popular non-surgical treatments performed in 2018. In fact, the average age of a patient requesting minimally invasive cosmetic procedures is actually getting younger.

Unlike prior generations, the stigma with “having work done” is slowly diminishing. With social media on the rise, sites like Instagram have made it acceptable for millennials to seek ways to look naturally younger and still be their “true self.” Anti-aging efforts say this “pre-juvenation” trend of starting preventative maintenance earlier rather than later will slow down the aging process and prevent wrinkles from becoming severe in the future.

Which treatments are most sought after?

#1 Botox

Injection wrinkle reducer Botox (a neurotoxin) procedures among both men and women have increased 22% since 2013, and the procedure continues to gain popularity. Maybe because it is simple and easy and only takes 10 minutes, or maybe because it is an inexpensive way for a fresh, “pick me up” anti-aging mood booster.

At Defy Nature Med Spa in New London, male patients are looking for a “Daddy Do-Over.” They find that men don’t age the same way women do, and often their lifestyle changes due to stress, parenting, or both. At ages 30 and 40, men notice that their facial expressions begin to look different. Like women, they are often looking to improve self-confidence along with their appearance. The desire to advance one’s career and stand out in the job market is a major reason to look good.

#2 Fillers

FDA approved dermal fillers are the second most popular anti-aging non-surgical treatment requested in 2019. These fillers are used in lips and cheeks for age-related volume loss, for wrinkle reduction, and to treat acne scarring. Specific areas of the face are injected most commonly with a Hyaluronic Acid (like Juvederm) or a collagen-based filler (Bellafill) for instant results. In fact, Bellafill—a five-year filler and the only product on the market approved for acne scarring—saw the most dramatic growth overall, with a 44% increase from 2017 to 2019.

With the continued improvement and ongoing research of new dermal filler products, experts expect this upward trend to continue well into the next decade. Since people are living longer, they want to feel good not only on the inside but on the outside as well.

#3 Skin Rejuvenation

Interest in improving overall skin appearance saw a dramatic increase in 2018, ranging from acne scarring to age spots. At Defy Nature, they offer many options in this group including chemical peels, radio frequency (RF), laser skin tightening, and medical grade skin care products. One of their most requested skin rejuvenation treatments is a VI Peel.

The VI Peel is a mid-level peel with powerful ingredients suitable for all skin types. It improves the tone and texture of the skin, softening lines and wrinkles while reducing age spots and sun damage. Great for anti-aging, acne, and acne scarring, the VI Peel is pain-free during and after the treatment, with little down time.
