Where Are We in 2024 with Non-Surgical Skin Tightening?

Genius April 24

What is the current status of non-surgical skin tightening?

Nonsurgical skin-tightening treatments have significantly evolved over the past 5 years. Compared to the early skin-tightening technologies of 20 or 30 years ago, which had very limited temperature control, we now have methods to deliver efficient heating to the soft tissue areas and deeper levels with tighter temperature control. This not only makes these technologies safer but also far more effective.

Skin-tightening technologies have a relationship between temperature, time and duration of treatment. This follows what is called the Arrhenius relationship, meaning that lower temperatures for longer periods of time will produce similar skin-tightening results as do the higher temperatures with shorter time periods. The ability to control the temperature and duration of treatment is essential to achieving effective results

Lastly, combination therapies have proved to be effective. For example, we are able to address loss of volume in areas of the midface with soft tissue fillers like Juvederm filler.https://www.defynaturellc.com/services/dermal-fillersand then tighten laxity of the lower face and neck areas with radiofrequency micro-needling technology https://www.defynaturellc.com/services/rf-microneedlingto produce comprehensive minimally invasive results for patients.

What are the most exciting recent innovations in Non-Surgical Skin Tightening?

One of the most amazing recent innovations has been radiofrequency micro needling because it has the ability to reach up to 3.5mm deep into the skin. The Genius device specifically, has really impacted our practice because it allows us to generate deep heating of fibrous (tough) bands that give your skin structure and support. Each of the micro needles in the Genius RF micro needling device has an adjustable depth. Research has found that this range is the most effective to treat areas in order to stimulate collagen. The adjustability of 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm allows for extreme precision. With its ability to maintain a constant temperature, Genius remodels the dermis and subdermal tissue. We typically perform this treatment using topical anesthetics. Genius RF micro needling is a device with programmable penetration depth and energy delivery for a more personalized treatment experience. By doing so, this procedure works to even skin tone and target fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. The radiofrequency devices of 20 years ago did not have this ability, and treatments were not as efficient and led to thermal injury in some cases due to lack of temperature control.

How have our patients responded to these new technologies?

Our patients are really interested in any type of non-surgical or less invasive skin-tightening techniques. There was definitely a time when people weren’t working or traveling and had more time on their hands, and more people were going in for surgical treatments. Now the pendulum has swung back and they’re more interested in what they can do quickly to look better but without the downtime required with surgery. It’s a new way to do energy-based tightening with improvement in fine lines and wrinkles and scars.
