Want Your Botox and Filler to Last Longer?

Want Your Botox and Filler to Last Longer?

Whether it’s our face or our favorite jeans, good investments are worth preserving. To make the most of your Botox and Fillers, here’s how to make them last as long as possible.

Practice Sun Safety.

Even though we’re tired of hearing it, the two main culprits for Botox and facial filler not lasting as long as they could are smoking & excessive solar exposure. Patients who smoke or who are constantly in the sun have a tendency to break down collagen faster because we all have an enzyme called collagenase and the Botox and filler (like Juvederm) will not last as long.

Kristin as Defy Nature advises her patients to avoid smoking and always wear sunscreen to extend the results of Botox even in the winter months. While completely staying out of the sun may be out of the question for some, definitely avoid it at peak UV times during the day. Using an SPF of at least 30 every day is a non-negotiable. She recommends Micro Day from Neocutis, a powerful anti-oxidant daily crème with broad spectrum UVA & UVB SPF 30 protection.

Use the right skin care.

If you’re starting with skin that’s healthy, your Botox and fillers will last longer. Kristin’s tool box includes products that contain retinol, hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants. Having good skin care will also help extend your results. She recommends using products daily that promote collagen to strengthen the skin. One to try: Bio-Serum Intensive Treatment with Algae, Green Tea, Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane Oil, Vitamin C & , Vitamin E

Be consistent with maintenance.

According to Kristin, her patients with regular toxin (Botox) appointments will develop muscle memory in the treated areas and eventually end up looking flawless. Another tip to loving your injectable results? Making sure you are seeing a professional who understands the science—and art—of injections like Kristin at Defy Nature. Never shop around for a bargain! We’re talking here about your face! Appropriate dosing of the toxin to the muscle will ensure a full three-month treatment and not every provider is the same.

Consider combination treatments.

Combining neuromodulators (Botox) with different treatments can contribute to fillers and neurotoxins lasting longer. Some favorite add-on treatments from Defy Nature: Genius t RF (micro needling with radiofrequency) for skin laxity and scarring. For the upper face, such as the forehead, a combination of Botox and filler will help to relax the muscle as well as make the neurotoxin last longer. For the lower face, such as the neck area and around the eyes, a combination of RF Micro Needling and neurotoxins (Botox) may help the Botox last longer. ToxBooster is a comprehensive treatment that combines the rejuvenating power of a resurfacing peel (VIPeel) with the soothing benefits of a Botox. When paired with a VI chemical peel, patients enjoy an overall improvement that is even greater than the sum of its parts

Sleep carefully.

While needing to sleep upright is a post-Botox myth, sleeping on your back isn’t. Use of a silk pillowcase, will help minimize lines and creases on the face and neck. Eating a well-balanced diet, and getting a full eight hours of sleep every night will help keep levels of cortisol down. Excess cortisol can cause an inflammatory cascade and a breakdown of collagen, fillers and Botox.
